2018 New England Manipulation Symposium
Yale University - June 15, 2018
The theme of NEMS is robotic grasping and manipulation research, including supporting technologies such as perception, mechanics, and algorithms. The purpose is to bring together researchers in the Northeast with these interests to talk about their work and to foster collaborations. Additionally, NEMS gives less experienced researchers a chance to present their work and discuss ideas. The event typically draws around 100 participants from top instituions all over the Northeast and beyond.
The symposium will start at 9am and end at 5pm and will be held in the TEAL Classroom at 17 Hillhouse Avenue at Yale. If you are driving, you should park in one of the Garages on Grove Street, near the intersection with Orange Street.
We will run three single-track presentation sessions and a poster session starting at 3pm.
Registration
To register, please send an email to nems2018yale@gmail.com with the following information for each attendee: Name, Affiliation, email address, role (e.g. Grad Student, Professor), and if a presentation slot (see below) or poster slot (see below) is desired. There is no fee for registration.
Presentations: We ask that presentations are focused on topics directly related to robotic manipulation or key enabling technologies for the area. Due to the number of available slots, we ask that there is only one presentation per research group. If you would like to present, please send a title, author list, and short abstract along with your registration email.
Posters: Posters can stray a little more from focusing directly on robotic manipulation topics, but should not discuss work grossly off topic of the general theme. If you would like to present a poster, please send a title and author list along with your registration email.
Schedule
Final Schedule -PDF here
NEMS will start at 9am and end at 5pm. Lunch and coffee/snacks will be provided. More schedule details to be provided soon.
We are happy to announce that Helen Huang (NCSU/UNC) will give a keynote talk entitled "Towards Bionic Limbs: Volitional Control of Upper-limb Prostheses".
Presentation and Poster Details
Each presentation will be allotted a 15-minute time slot (12 minutes plus 3 for questions). You will use your own laptop, and you should arrive 15 minutes before your session starts to ensure that it works properly.
For posters, you will have a 4'x4' area to use. Posters will be put on magnetic markerboards (magnets will be provided to hang them). We also have room for about half of the posters to instead be presented on large screen TVs (~50") in the poster room. If you prefer a TV, please email the conference email address with [poster] in the subject line and indicate this preference. You should also prepare a 1-slide poster intro with a 1-minute pitch that we will have everyone run through in a poster lightning session. This slide will be uploaded onto a single slide deck before the workshop. More instructions will be provided in the coming days.
