We fitted experimental data from applications of dichloramine to dimethylamine to the formation pathway detailed below.
When preformed monochloramine is applied to dimethylamine, the traces of dichloramine that form by disproportionation of monochloramine can account for nearly all NDMA formation using the equation and constants obtained from dichloramine experiments (green curve in figure at lower right).
