Aleksandar Vacic was born in December 1982 in Pirot, Serbia. He received the Dipl. Ing. in Applied Physics/Physical Electronics from the School of Elesctrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia in May 2006 as a Valedictorian (class of approx. 600 students). He spent the summer of 2005 at Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel as an undergraduate research fellow working on the Shot noise measurements in Fractional Quantum Hall Regimes under the supervision of Prof. Moty Heiblum. In September 2006 Alek started his Ph.D. journey by joining Yale University and the Reed Lab. His research interest include: nanofabrication, physics of low-dimensional structures and biosensing with semiconductor nanowire devices.
