Unveiling, presentation, and reception:
Thurs., April 22, noon, Team Lux, our Yale College Solar Racing Team, will unveil
"Lux Perpetua" in the Hewitt Quadrangle (Beinecke Plaza). "Lux
Perpetua" will participate in Sunrayce '99, the 1,300-mile solar vehicle race
from Washington D.C.to Orlando, FL, on June 20-29. In October of this year,
Team Lux will race "Lux Perpetua" in the World Solar Challenge in Australia.
Team Lux' 33 members major in 15 areas, including Engineering and the sciences, history,
music, philosophy, and political science. The project director is Alexander Selkirk
'99. Faculty advisers are Prof. Robert Apfel, Mechanical Engineering, and
Prof. Peter Kindlmann, Electrical Engineering. Team Lux has attracted support
from public and private souces, among them Hexcel Corporation and the Yale Departments
of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Enginering, and Applied
Physics. The unveiling of "Lux Perpetua" includes a presentation
at 6:30 pm Mason Lab, Room 211, on the design, development, and future of Yale's
solar car and concludes with a reception.
