Faculty of Engineering Prizes for Graduate Students

Each year, two outstanding graduate students are honored during Commencement ceremonies at the
Graduate School with these Faculty of Engineering prizes:

The Henri Prentiss Becton Graduate Prize was endowed in 1968 by Henri P. Becton '37S whose gift made
possible the construction of Becton Center. It is given for exceptional achievement in research and is awarded
at the discretion of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
1999 Winner: Joao Hespanha, Department of Engineering
Certificate and a check for $500.00
 
The Harding Bliss Prize was endowed in 1972 in memory of the late Harding Bliss, Professor of
Chemical Engineering. It is awarded to a student for excellence in Engineering and Applied
Science, who has completed his or her Ph.D. thesis during the current academic year, and who
has done most to further the intellectual life of the department.
1999 Winner: Whye-Kei Lye, Department of Electrical Engineering
