Prof. T.P. Ma receives 
the 2005 IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award

Tso-Ping Ma, Raymond John Wean Professor of of Electrical Engineering and Professor of Applied Physics, received word  from Arthur W. Winston, IEEE President, that he had been chosen to receive the 2005 IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award  "For contributions to the development and understanding of CMOS gate dielectrics." The award consists of a bronze medal, a certificate, and an honorarium of $10,000. The awarding ceremony will be held at the IEDM (International Electron Device Meeting) in December of 2005.

  Prof. Ma is the Chair of the Department of
  Electrical Engineering and Co-Director of the
  Center for Microelectronic Materials and
  Structures. In 2003, he was elected a member 
  of the National Academy of Engineering.

  Prof. Ma is also a Fellow of IEEE and a recipient
  of several national professional awards.
  He has served on technical program committees
  of numerous international conferences, and is an
  Honorary Professor of the Chinese Academy of
  Sciences.

He holds several patents, is co-editor of a book, and has contributed to book chapters and to more than 180 research papers. 

Prof. Ma is involved in the community and enjoys skating. In fact, Vice President of the Yale Figure Skating Club and excels in ice dancing! 

The IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award is named in honor of the lifetime achievements of Andrew Grove who was instrumental in founding Intel Corporation. The award is presented by the IEEE Board of Directors on the recommendation of the Technical Field Awards Council and the Awards Board.
