Prof. Lavik and Prof. Ramirez among Nation's Brightest Young Engineers

The National Academy of Engineering announced July 20, 2004, that 86 of the nation's brightest young engineers had been selected to participate in the National Academy of Engineering's (NAE) 10th annual Frontiers of Engineering symposium in September 9-11 in Irvine, CA. More than 170 candidates had been nominated for the honor by industry, academia, and government. 

Among the nation's brightest young engineers who will be exploring topics in multiscale modeling, designer materials, engineering for extreme environments, engineering, and entertainment at the National Academy's Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center will be Prof. Erin Lavik and Prof. Ainissa Ramirez of Yale.

Last year, professors Lavik and Ramirez had been named MIT’s Technology Review Magazine among the world's 100 top young innovators under the age of 35 and were honored at the Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT. More.

The National Academy of Engineering's 2004 Frontiers of Engineering sponsors are the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Air Products and Chemicals Inc., ATOFINA Chemicals Inc., Cummins Inc., the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the U.S. Department of Defense (DDR&E–Research), Eastman Kodak Co., Microsoft Corp., and NASA, as well as individual donors.
