lecture in Congress:
March 10, Prof. James Duncan, BME and EE, and
Dr. Ken Vives
from the Yale Neurosurgery Department will present at
the
Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill in
Washington, DC,
an overview of the research being performed on Prof.
Duncan's
grant entitled "Bioimaging and Intervention in
Neocortical
Epilepsy" and the integration of this technology
into clinical practice.
The audience will consist of the Medical Technology
Caucus of the
U.S. 109th Congress; this caucus was formed in 1993 to
increase
awareness among members of Congress and their staffs of
the
issues faced by the medical technology sector. This
Caucus is
currently chaired by Rep. James Ramstad (R-MN) and Rep.
Anna Eshoo (D-CA). Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT)
will introduce Prof. Duncan and Dr. Vives to the
Caucus.

series of talks
on topics in biomedical engineering, astronomy,
psychology,
and the environment for 7th graders and up. The talks
are
also open to the general public. Lasting about 40
minutes, the

Director
for Engineering Advancement:
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Yale is
searching for
a Director for Engineering Advancement. The Director
will report
to the Dean of Engineering, develop and direct programs
to
promote a positive public awareness of Yale
Engineering, and
serve the more general engineering missions for
research, teaching,
and service. Also, foster relations with government,
industry,
alumni, friends, and collaborators of Yale's
engineering programs.
Also, develop and direct student and alumni outreach
programs such
as placement of students in corporate internships and
manage
distinguished visitor programs. Also, oversee public
relations
programs, production of publicity and recruiting
materials, and
evolution of Yale Engineering web sites.
Requirements: Master's degree in engineering, science,
marketing, communications, or related field. Also,
knowledge
of engineering technology, experience with
communications,
publishing, development, or public relations, and at
least 6 years
of outreach or advancement experience related to higher
education.

Postdoctoral
position elsewhere:
The Optoelectronic Circuits and Systems Laboratory at
UCLA
is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in
optical physics.
The laboratory has recently demonstrated the first
silicon laser
and is seeking to expand its activities in this and
related areas.
Applicants should have a background in theoretical and
experimental
nonlinear optics as well as experience in solid-state
theory.
