senior garners ASME award:

Silfen '02 was the recipient of this year's New Haven
- ASME
Chapter Award. Dr. Beth Anne Bennett, Lecturer

Mechanical Engineering and Treasurer of the New Haven
- ASME
Chapter, had the pleasure of presenting the award
- at
Fairfield University at a March 20 ceremony honoring
- awards
recipients from area colleges and universities.
- Yale's
ASME student chapter faculty advisor is Mr. Glenn
- Weston-Murphy,
Lecturer in ME.

- Major
money for undergrads and grad students:
- Each
winner or winning team at the Collegiate Inventors
- Competition
receives $20,000, and $10,000 goes to the advisor
- (two
1999 winners from Yale are featured in the program's
- brochure!).
The invention, idea, or process must be the original
- work
of a student or student team under the guidance of an
- advisor.

- "Best
regards to all":
- Mr.
Henry Bolanos, Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering,
- sends
greetings from the University of Auckland in New
- Zealand,
where he is teaching 103 students (mostly
- seniors
who couldn't get into his "Innovation and New
- Product
Development" course last year). Mr. Bolanos is
- enjoying
the weather, the ballet, the symphony, and
- "making
plans for a sail to Bay of Islands, up north."

- Farewell
and enjoy:
- Dorrie
McMonigal, Administrative Assistant, Faculty
- of
Engineering, is taking early retirement so she can
- "enjoy
my life!" She can't wait to redecorate the house,
- to
garden, to spend time with family and friends, and
- do
myriad other things. Ms. McMonigal has been at
- Yale
for more than 19 years, of which the past two
- years
and four months were spent with Engineering.
