ME senior garners ASME award:
Molly Silfen '02 was the recipient of this year's New Haven
ASME Chapter Award. Dr. Beth Anne Bennett, Lecturer
in Mechanical Engineering and Treasurer of the New Haven
ASME Chapter, had the pleasure of presenting the award
at Fairfield University at a March 20 ceremony honoring
awards recipients from area colleges and universities.
Yale's ASME student chapter faculty advisor is Mr. Glenn
Weston-Murphy, Lecturer in ME.

Major money for undergrads and grad students:
Each winner or winning team at the Collegiate Inventors
Competition receives $20,000, and $10,000 goes to the advisor
(two 1999 winners from Yale are featured in the program's
brochure!). The invention, idea, or process must be the original
work of a student or student team under the guidance of an
advisor. Deadline: June 1. For specifics, visit
www.invent.org/collegiate

"Best regards to all":
Mr. Henry Bolanos, Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering,
sends greetings from the University of Auckland in New
Zealand, where he is teaching 103 students (mostly
seniors who couldn't get into his "Innovation and New
Product Development" course last year). Mr. Bolanos is
enjoying the weather, the ballet, the symphony, and
"making plans for a sail to Bay of Islands, up north."

Farewell and enjoy:
Dorrie McMonigal, Administrative Assistant, Faculty
of Engineering, is taking early retirement so she can
"enjoy my life!" She can't wait to redecorate the house,
to garden, to spend time with family and friends, and
do myriad other things. Ms. McMonigal has been at
Yale for more than 19 years, of which the past two
years and four months were spent with Engineering.

Judge for yourself:
"I must judge for myself, but how can I judge, how
can any man judge, unless his mind has been opened
and enlarged by reading." Entry in his diary by
25-year old John Adams, later to become the 2nd president
of the U.S. and father of the 6th U.S. president, John
Quincy Adams.
