Appointed Director of Graduate Studies:
Prof. Mitchell D. Smooke, ME, has been appointed
Director of Graduate Studies for the spring term.
 
University/Unions negotiations continue:
The University and the Unions agreed, Jan. 18, to continue
negotiations. The contracts are extended until March 1 and
will be renewed automatically every month thereafter, unless
either party gives notice to the other fifteen days before the
extension expires. One of the points on which the University
and the Unions differ is the right of graduate students to unionize.
 
Sandia National Laboratories recruit from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1:
Undergraduates and graduate students can find out
about summer internships, career opportunities, and whether
they qualify for a "One Year on Campus Program" or a
"Doctoral Study Program" that pays all tuition costs and
provides some compensation and benefits. Permanent
employment at Sandia is for U.S. citizens only, but post-docs
are available also to non-citizens. Undergraduates should
contact Ms. Jane Boone, 2-4224; graduate students
should contact Ms. Cara Gibilisco, 2-4252.

A representative from the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Boston, MA,
will provide information on Tues., Feb. 19, 4:00 pm, in the
Becton Faculty Lounge to undergraduates and graduate
students about summer and other employment opportunities
at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Students who wish to be interviewed
(U.S. citizens only) must e-mail their resume to Vyshnavi
Suntharalingam <vyshi@LL.mit.edu> by Feb. 8.

If you need some help with identifying a suitable summer

Scholarships for women:
Sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students who
are women and in engineering or computer science are
eligible for Society of Women Engineers scholarships worth
