Welcome:
Dr. Abbas Firoozabadi has been appointed Professor
Adjunct of Chemical Engineering. Prof. Firoozabadi
received his Ph.D. at the Illinois Institute of Technology
and is the founder and Senior Scientist and Director of
the Reservoir Engineering Research Institute, U.S.A.
Prof. Firoozabadi's most recent academic appointment
was at the Imperial College in London, where he was a
Visiting Professor at the T.H. Huxley School of Environment,
Earth Sciences, and Engineering.
 
Results of the Mobile Robot Contest:
EE 227 "Circuits and Electronics Laboratory," taught by
Prof. Janet Pan, EE, with the assistance of Resident
Senior Electronics Engineer Mr. Edward Jackson,
announces the winners of the Mobile Robot Contest.

Engineering Student Council establishes UAC:
At a Dec. 4 meeting ESC established the Undergraduate
Advisory Committee, composed of Seniors and Juniors.
UAC will be chaired by Josh Buck '04 ChE and includes
Yaw Adjei-Poku '04 BME, Youjung Byon '03 ChE (Select),
Philip Gerhardt '04 EnvE, Tiffanee Green '03 BME (Select),
Benjamin Jarvis '03 AP, Mike Neiss '04 EE (Select), Preethan
Reddy '04 ChE. 

In January, UAC will develop and propose to ESC a statement 
of purpose, membership, officers, term length, and ground rules.
 
Engineering & Diplomacy Fellowships:
Engineering/science Ph.D.s, U.S. citizens, are invited
to serve as technical advisers for one year in the
U.S. State Department, on the staff of a Member
of Congress, or on a Congressional committee.
The stipend is $50,000, and the Fellow may concurrently
receive a salary from an employer (if taking a sabbatical,
for example). Deadline Feb. 24 (to start Sept. 2003 or

Compensation is $50,000 plus $5,000 travel and relocation
