ABET team in town:
     Every six years, the Accreditation Board for Engineering
     and Technology visits Yale to review Yale's undergraduate
     programs in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
     and Mechanical Engineering. Nov. 10-12 (Sun., Mon., Tues.)
     the ABET team will sit in on classes, visit labs, talk to faculty
     and students, review course materials, and examine other
     aspects of undergraduate engineering education at Yale.
 
Journal cover features Yale EnvE paper/idea: 
     The Nov. 1 issue of the premier ACS journal for environmental
     science/engineering, Environmental Science & Technology,
     highlights on the cover the invited feature article, "The
     Promise of Bank Filtration," by Yale environmental engineering
     graduate student Nathalie Tufenkji, her advisor Prof. Menachem
     Elimelech, ChE/EnvE, and Prof. Joseph N. Ryan, University
     of Colorado at Boulder. The cover design, says a note, was
     created "from an original idea and a surprisingly good sketch
     by the featured article=92s co-author, Nathalie Tufenkji."

Who won the YES Concept Competition?
     Wed., Nov. 13, 8:00 pm, Sudler Auditorium, WLH,
     YES will award $2,000 in prizes to 3 for-profit and 3 social
     entrepreneurship winners of the Y2K Concept competition
     and also brief everyone on the big business plan competition

Postdoctoral Office at Yale:
     Yale has created a Postdoctoral Office for its 1,000 postdocs
     at the Med School and the 300 postdocs on central campus.
     The Office will assist postdocs in various ways, including
     with resumes and job searches. Directors of Postdoctoral
     Affairs for the Faculty of Engineering will be the Chairs
     of our departments. Note: Postdocs are "Associates" if they
     are compensated by the University and "Fellows," if the
     compensation is from outside grants. The distinction has
     a bearing on eligibility for University benefits.
 
YSEA Board to meet:
     The Board of the Yale Science and Engineering Association
     will meet Wed., Nov. 13, in the Becton Faculty Lounge.
     Chairs of Engineering and Sciences departments are
     invited on a rotating basis to discuss how YSEA activities
     could promote growth and excellence of Yale's Engineering
     and Science programs. The discussions are continued
     informally at dinner. Prof. T.P. Ma, EE Chair, and
     Prof. Menachem Elimelech, EnVE Director, will attend
     this meeting. YSEA has also invited Mrs. Jane Boone,
     Coordinator of Educational Affairs and the Select Program,
     to speak about the initiatives of her office.
 
Needs an assistant:
     Andrew Morcus, Engineering Facilities Manager, needs a
     full time (casual) assistant who would be over 18, reliable,
     able to move about heavy items, sort mail, make deliveries
     around campus, and assist with a variety of other jobs

Got your flu shot?
     Flu shots will be given at the Health Center Wednesdays
     and Thursdays, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, ending with Dec. 5.
