Congratulations:
The 28th International Symposium on Compound Semiconductors 2001,
being held Oct. 1-4 at the University of Tokyo, will honor Prof. Mark A. Reed, EE & AP, Prof. Leo P. Kouwenhoven of Delft University
of Technology, Netherlands, and Prof. Seigo Tarucha of the University of Tokyo with the ISCS-2001 Quantum Devices Award for "pioneering contributions to electronic transport and spectroscopy of quantum dots." Prof. Reed, who is giving a paper at the Symposium, will receive the award on the first day of the event.
 
Grants for undergraduate research:
The Yale Science and Engineering Association provides grants for undergraduates doing research in any branch of science or engineering. YSEA accepts proposals at any time and responds within a month of receiving the application. Please provide
   1. a brief description of the research project,
   2. a budget, showing how you will use the requested amount,
   3. a letter of recommendation from the faculty member who
   will supervise the project.

Fri., Sept. 28, 11:00 am. Science Citation Index (a.k.a. Web of Science) has a unique feature it allows you to find papers that have referenced a work published earlier. Come and learn to search by citation, author, and subject.

Richard Bascom, Senior Administrator, is one of the organizers and Webmaster for the Durham Fair, the largest agricultural fair in North America.* See youth livestock competitions (beef, dairy, llamas, goats, poultry, rabbits, sheep, swine); pulling contests (horses, oxen, ponies); shepherd dog trials; horticulture, cookery, hobbies, etc. There will be food, music (Diamond Rio, Roy Clark, and Bo Diddley), and… Mr. and Mrs. Bascom manning the official souvenir booths (all work is done by volunteers, unpaid). No entrance fee for children under 11.
