Manohar M. Panjabi,
Professor of Orthopaedics and of Mechanical Engineering.
Ph.D. Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.
Biomechanics of soft tissues and body joints, burst fractures of the
lumbar spine and associated injuries, spinal fixation devices of the
thoraco-lumbar and cervical spine, whiplash injury and injury-prevention.
Injury mechanisms and diagnostic and treatment modalities. Hand, knee,
and shoulder research. Director, Biomechanics Laboratory.

Edmund M. Yeh, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering.
Ph.D. MIT.
Digital communication theory, information theory, queueing theory,
wireless systems, data networks, signal processing.

Bjong Wolf Yeigh, Assistant Professor Adjunct of Mechanical Engineering.
Ph.D. Princeton. 
Stochastic mechanics with emphasis on stability and
reliability. Computational methods in tribology (friction, lubrication and wear).
Primary appointment: Assistant Provost for Science and Technology.

Fri., Aug. 31, in the Becton Faculty Lounge Dean Paul Fleury,
Prof. Alessandro Gomez, Director of Graduate Studies, and
Ms. Cara Gibilisco, Graduate Registrar, Dr. Martin Ewing, Director
of IT for Engineering, and Mr. Andy Shimp, Engineering Librarian,
met with the new graduate students. Our new 28 Ph.D. students,
two M.S. and one M.Eng student have received their undergraduate
education in China, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, and the U.S.
