Congratulations:
IEEE Board of Directors has selected Prof. James Duncan,
Diagnostic Radiology and EE, to be IEEE Fellow. This honor,
conferred each year on less than 0.1% of the membership, is
extended to an individual who has "outstanding and extraordinary
qualifications and experience in IEEE designated fields, and who
has made important individual contributions to one or more of
these fields." Prof. Duncan is cited for his contributions to
medical image analysis and computer vision. Prof. Duncan
is the Director of our Biomedical Engineering Program and
its Director of Undergraduate Studies.
 
Oversubscribed:
ENAS 323b, "Creativity and New Product Development," taught
by Mr. Henry Bolanos, starts the term with 60 students (two
classes of 30 students each) and more than 20 seniors on standby.
Mr. Bolanos will give priority to seniors when he teaches this
course again in the fall (Mr. Bolanos <henry@compuserve.com>
is presently accepting pre-registrations). Texts used in the course
are Entrepreneurship and Small Business by Bolanos and Lewis,
available in the textbook section (ENAS 323) at the Yale Book
Store, and a course packet, "ENAS 323, Bolanos," available at
RIS, 155 Whitney (basement floor).
 
Thesis defense:
Shuhong Zhang, ChE, will be defending his thesis, "Development
of Polymeric Stationary Phases for CEC of Biopolymers,"

Science and Engineering 2001
. This year's series of lectures
for high school juniors will be held Saturday mornings
March 10, 17, 24, 31, and April 7. Completed application
forms must reach our Office of Educational Affairs by Feb. 24.

or science chairs and guidance counselors in Connecticut,
Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New

Luis Torres, our Facilities Office Assistant, is getting married
to Victoria Rivera Saturday, Jan. 20. His bride is a receptionist
at National Filter Media in Wallingford. After a honeymoon
in Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Torres will reside in West Haven.
