JSME Award for Prof. Khalil:
    Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) in Shinjuku,
    Tokyo, Japan, has honored Prof. Yehia Kahlil, ChE, with
    its "2003 International Award" for his contributions as Technical
    Track Leader on "Risk Assessment, Safety, and Plant Evaluation"
    at the 11th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE-11),
    Tokyo, April 20-23. Prof. Khalil has 17 years of industrial experience
    in power plant operation, including as Engineering Manager of the
    Risk Assessment Department at the Millstone Nuclear Power
    Station, Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Waterford, CT. [Millstone
    Station was acquired in 2001 by Dominion Energy of Richmond, VA].

Congratulations:
    Nathalie Tufenkji, graduate advisee of Prof. Menachem Elimelech,
    EnvE, has received the Canadian Federation of University Women
    (CFUW) 2003-04 Margaret McWilliams Pre-Doctoral Award. The
    CFUW works on raising the social, economic, and legal status
    of women and on improving education, the environment, peace,
    justice, and human rights.

Who won the 2003 Robot Challenge?
    The winner was Jeffrey Warren '06 with his robot, "Joe." Jeffrey
    developed a winning combination: he came up with an innovative
    design, built "Joe" early and then he practiced with his robot,
    refining "Joe's" design and strategy until he had himself a winner.
    Congratulations!

Professor, student to spend summer in Greece:
    The Hellenic Studies Program of the Yale Council on
    European Studies has awarded Prof. Yiorgos Makris, EE,
    a Stavros S. Niarchos Faculty Research Grant and
    Haralampos Stratigopoulos '07, ENAS, a Stavros S. Niarchos
    Fellowship to compile a "Who-is-Who in High Tech in Greece."

Heads Friendship Force of Southern Connecticut:
    Ms. Barbara Skolones, Administrative Assistant in ChE,
    is the president of Friendship Force of Southern Connecticut,
    affiliate of Friendship Force International. The Southern
    Connecticut Friendship Force meets every other month in
    Branford and develops friendships between Americans and
    from other countries (e.g., South Africa, Russia) who go to
    visit and stay in one another's homes. Visit Ms. Skolones'

The Department of Applied Physics Prize is awarded to a

Engineering Junior Prizes
The Belle and Carl Morse Junior Prize in Engineering
and Applied Science is awarded to an undergraduate
in Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering,
or Mechanical Engineering who has completed his/her Junior
year and has demonstrated leadership to fellow students by
outstanding scholarship and participation in extra-curricular
activities within the department.

• The Department of Chemical Engineering Junior Prize
