Welcome:

Christopher Doyle has joined us April 4 as Office Assistant
to the Facilities Manager. He has studied business
finance at American International College, Springfield, MA,
where he was also an avid soccer player (he was invited
to try out for major indoor soccer team). He intends to
finish his degree at the University of New Haven. His
parents, Elizabeth and Joseph Vellali, also work at Yale.
His mother is Sr. Administrative Assistant in MB&B and
his father is Manager of two stockrooms in KBT. His brother
Jonathan is in the military, his sister Amanda attends
Sacred Heart Academy, and his 14-year brother Brandon
is a student at ACES in Hamden.

Matlab programmer needed:
Ecology and Evolutionary Biology has a part-time hourly
Matlab programmer position for an undergraduate or a
graduate student. Work on computational tools for
analysis of electron micrographs of color producing
biological nanostructures (in bird feathers and butterfly
scales!). Upgrade and expand existing Matlab m-files,
develop a free-standing version. The applicant should
have experience with basic image processing, discrete
Fourier analysis, Matlab on multiple platforms, creating
GUIs, and graphical presentation of data. Please contact
<richard.prum@yale.edu> or 2-9423 and ask also about
    other research possibilities.

Raising seed financing for small business:
The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, CCAT,
invites those thinking about starting a business (or
small businesses looking for ways to finance new
development) to a government Small Business
    Innovative Research (SBIR) program
    April 12, 8:30 am-noon,
at Anlyan Center for Medical Research & Education
on Congress Avenue. The day's focus will be about
    biotechnology-oriented SBIR opportunities, but
attendees will also acquire a general sense of what
financing opportunities are available for small
    businesses development also in engineering,
    computer science, and environmental science.

AYA offers contacts for Yale alumni-to-be:
The Yale Career Network contains profiles and contact
information of 5,600+ alumni who volunteered to act
as career advisors to current students about career
objectives, professional interests, local job market
conditions in their fields, and other career-related
issues. Use your Yale NetID and password to access
    <www.aya.yale.edu/career> Or address your questions
    to the AYA at <career.network@yale.edu>
