Big jump in applications to our grad program:
    Last year, Engineering received 560 applications to the grad
    program; this year, 736 applied. The applicants are from the U.S.
    and Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia,
    Canada, Chile, China, El Salvador, England, France, Germany,
    Greece, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan,
    Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Netherlands,
    Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal,
    Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, South Africa, South
    Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Togo, Turkey, United Arab
    Emirates, and Vietnam. Engineering accepts between 40 and
    50 new graduate students each year. The selection process of
    our new crop of graduate students is still in progress.

    The security clearance deadline is Mon., Feb. 10, if you wish
    to participate in the Fri., Feb 28 (10:30 am-2:00 pm) visit to

"Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day":
    Some Engineering undergraduates, graduate students, and
    faculty are planning to participate in the National Engineers
    Week's "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" to help raise
    awareness among girls about engineering. Girls in grades 7-10
    at five public schools and two private schools in the New Haven
    area will be invited to spend Fri., Feb. 27, at Yale Engineering 
    for demonstrations, tours, lunch, and panel discussions.

    The next planning meeting is Mon., Feb. 10, 6:00 pm, in the

    Learn how to find articles using the foremost literature database
    for chemical information, Chemical Abstracts, and discover other
    sources for chemical data. Find out how to install and search
