Win/win:
Giovanni Zinn '05, EnvE, was featured in the Yale Bulletin &
Calendar (Nov. 5) for reworking his
diesel-fueled truck to run,
in part, on used vegetable oil. His truck gets 15-20
miles to the gallon,
emits fewer pollutants and no sulfur dioxide
(contributes to acid rain)
and the exhaust smells better. The used oil is free
from a restaurant
(the owner is thrilled to get rid of it for free) and
Dining Halls is
equally happy to oblige. Giovanni Zinn is now
talking to professors
and Yale administrators about using vegetable oil to
heat Yale buildings.
