Sorrow in Biomedical Engineering:
Michael Dutt, a graduate student in Biomedical Engineering,
died at the age of 27 last December 16. He had come to Yale
from Cornell when his faculty adviser, Prof. Mark Saltzman,
accepted a position at Yale. Michael Dutt is survived by his wife,
Emily Habisch, also a graduate student from Cornell continuing
her studies at Yale, and his parents and sister who live in
Rochester, NY.

and Prof. Eric Altman.
Wed., Jan. 21, 9:30 am, Mason 321B.

Be a judge:
Wilbur Cross High School will hold its first science fair Thurs., Feb. 5
(and hopes to participate in the city-wide New Haven science fair
to be held in Woolsey Hall in March) and needs judges. Faculty,
senior researchers, and education-oriented grad students who could
serve as judges for part of the day should get more information from
Prof. Daniel Prober, AP. Prof. Prober, who will be a judge, would
be happy to offer a ride to graduate students who would like to help
out with the judging and need a ride.

Two library workshops next week:
Tues., Jan. 20, noon. Introduction to Engineering and Computer
Science Databases: learn about online databases for finding books
(including e-books), journal articles, and full-text papers.
Fri., Jan. 23, noon. "Web of Science" and Tools for Citation
Analysis: Web of Science (Science Citation Index) can find papers
that have referenced an earlier published work. Learn to search
by citation in Web of Science and to use related tools for analyzing
the impact of journals and authors.

Farewell to Professor Cunningham:
Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering W. Jack Cunningham
died on January 7. All who knew him will always remember
his love of teaching and how much he enjoyed Yale. He taught
at this University from 1946 to 1988 and served Yale in numerous
capacities, including as the Chair of the Department of Electrical
Engineering, DUS and DGS, and as chair or member of many
University committees. He published a textbook (it was translated
into French and Polish) and a history of Engineering at Yale from
1932-82. He was a judge at state science fairs, gave talks at the
Eli Whitney Museum, and participated in the community in many
other capacities. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara
Cunningham, and two sons. A Memorial service was held Friday,
January 16, at 200 pm in the Church of The Redeemer, 185 Cold
Spring Street, New Haven, where he had been a trustee.
