Prof.
Nicholas Read wins Buckley Prize
The
American Physical Society has announced that the 2002 Oliver E. Buckley Prize has
been awarded to Prof. Nicholas Read, Professor of Physics
and Applied Physics at Yale University, to Prof. Jainendra Jain of
Pennsylvania State University and to Dr. Robert Willett of Bell
Laboratories.
The Buckley Prize recognized the importance of their
research in measuring and explaining certain novel states of
matter that are produced in semiconducting heterostructures at low
temperature and high magnetic field.l
Prof. Read and Dr. Jain were recognized for their theoretical work
and Dr. Willett for his experimental work.
The Buckley
Prize was endowed in 1952 by AT&T Bell Laboratories to
recognize outstanding theoretical or experimental contributions to
condensed matter physics. Eighteen Buckley Prize recipients
went on to win the Nobel Prize in Physics or Chemistry. |
