Prof. Charles Ahn, Assistant Professor of Applied
Physics and Physics, won a Packard Fellowship
for Science and Engineering, in 2001. Packard Fellowships
are awarded to the nation's most promising young
professors to pursue their research with few funding
restrictions and limited paperwork requirements. The Fellowship
provides $625,000 for research during a five year
period.
Established
in 1988, the Packard Fellowship, has become the
most prestigious award in the United States for young
scientists. Twenty-four Fellows are selected
each year from all disciplines of science and
engineering.
The
Yale Department of Applied Physics is one of only two
academic departments in the country to have three
active Packard Fellows. Prof. Robert
Schoelkopf, Assistant Professor of Applied Physics
and Physics, was awarded a Packard Fellowship in 2000 and Prof. Robert Grober, Associate
Professor of Applied Physics and Physics, received a Packard
Fellowship in 1997. |
