Alumna Wilbur L. Cross Medalist

May 25, 2004, Julia M. Phillips '77 M.S., '81 Ph.D. was a recipient of the Wilbur L. Cross Medal, the highest honor awarded by the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences to a Ph.D. graduate for outstanding achievement in professional life. Dr. Phillips is the Director of Physical and Chemical Sciences at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM. 

In February of this year, Dr. Phillips was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for "leadership and distinguished research in the epitaxy of dissimilar materials." 

The Wilbur L. Cross Medal is named in honor of William Lucius Cross who served as dean of the Graduate School from 1931 to 1939.
