Purchasing A New Computer

Most computers purchased for general use are Windows/Intel, Macintosh/PowerPC, or Linux/Intel.  Some researchers require more powerful or specialized systems from IBM, Sun, HP, or other vendors.  In any case, the Engineering IT Office is prepared to consult at all phases of the process.

Proposal Writing

We work with faculty to write winning proposals - at least when computing facilities are involved.  We will do market research, benchmark analyses, and study configuration options to assist you with proposals.  We will also help to define the on-going support arrangements that you will need.

Pre-purchase Consultation

We will suggest configuration and pricing using Yale's www.yale.edu/eportal system or other appropriate industry sources.

Peripherals and Other Hardware

You may order other hardware on your own, but it is often a good idea to consult with Engineering IT in advance to assure that you get products that are as compatible and easy to support as possible.  Many times, the Yale www.yale.edu/eportal system (CDW-G) is an easy way to purchase, although many other companies will be happy to take your order.
