History of Engineering
at Yale University

Engineering and applied sciences have a long and distinguished history at Yale University, since 1852.  Until 1956, Engineering at Yale was associated with the Sheffield Scientific School.  Currently, the Yale Faculty of Engineering comprises four departments in Arts & Sciences:  Chemical, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, together with Applied Physics.

This web site exists to collect historical resources relating to the story of Engineering at Yale.

Resources Available

History of Sheffield Scientific School.  These materials were collected for the Becton/Dunham display cases by Andy Shimp and Diana Sheffield.
The Palmer Models.  Exquisite models of 19th century railroad engines and a naval cruiser were crafted by Charles L. Palmer and bequeathed to the Sheffield School in 1908.  They are available for private viewing on request.
