Dr. Pierre C. Hohenberg was
the immediate past Deputy Provost for Science and Technology at Yale University.

Scientific Fields of Interest:

Physics of condensed matter, phase transitions and critical phenomena, statistical physics, hydrodynamic instabilities, nonequilibrium pattern formation. 

Other Interests: 

Funding of research universities; science careers; electricity generation from renewable sources, national security issues, professional ethics, and human rights. 

I served as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Santa Barbara, CA. I also served as Chair of the APS Panel on Public Affairs (POPA). Under my chairmanship, POPA presented the Guidelines for Professional Conduct to the APS Council, and the Guidelines were adopted. 

I chaired the APS Committee on the International Freedom of Scientists (1983), was a member of the New York Academy of Sciences Committee on Human Rights (1984-96), and of the APS Task Force on the Crisis of Physics in the Republics of the Former Soviet Union (1992-93). I am a founding member of the Program for Refugee Scientists (1990-).
