1995

Michel Devoret awarded the Descartes-Huygens Prize by the Dutch Royal Academy of Science for his work superconducting electronics. In 1991 he was honored by the French Academy of Science upon being awarded the Ampere Prize.

1996

Robert E. Apfel (1943-2002) elected President of the American Acoustical Society. In 2002 he received the Society’s Gold Medal. In 1971 he received the A.B. Wood Medal and Prize from the Institute of Great Britain and in 1976 the Biennial Award of the Acoustical Society.

A new five-year “Select Program” established, combining a four-year undergraduate bs degree with a one-year Master’s of Engineering (MEng) degree. It features industrial internships and courses in design, envirnomental engineering, ethics, and management, the last within the School of Management.

The Sheffield Fellowship created to recognize outstanding national technological leaders.
