1985Center for Microelectronic Materials and Structures (µELM) established. Initial studies included metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) device physics, electron tunneling in thin oxides, radiation-induce damage, composite oxides, transparent conductive oxides, superconducting materials, quantum electron interference effects at low temperatures, submicron structures, and conductivity in quasi-two- and one-dimensional systems. In 1993, the µELM clean room dedicated, financed by alumni, corporate donors and The W.M. Keck Foundation. Richard C. Barker director. 1987A. Douglas Stone received the William L. McMillan Award for outstanding contributions to condensed matter science. 1988The Yale Science and Engineering Association, The Association of Yale Alumni and the Council of Engineering hosted a reunion for Engineering Alumni April 15-17. The Carl A. Morse (25s) Teaching Center dedicated on December 13. A new major in Applied Physics established. Daniel E. Rosner awarded Meriam/Wiley Prize of the ASEE for his textbook Transport Processes in Chemically Reacting Flow Systems. Gary L. Haller elected president of the North American Catalysis Society. 1989Gary L. Haller elected president of the North American Catalysis Society. The Fund for Engineering, co-chairs John J. Lee and Salvatore Nuzzo, raises $11 x 106. |
