Professor Wohlenberg appointed Dean of the School of Engineering.

1950

An ECPD team visited and the five programs again received accreditation.

1951

Champion H. Mathewson, physical metallurgist was awarded an honorary degree. Rarely has Yale so honored one of its emeritus professors. The citation was “Son of Yale and for more than two score years a member of her faculty, your work on the constitution of the metals and their alloys has enlarged the resources of modern engineering. Artificer of the material foundation for our society, Yale confers the degree Doctor of Science.” He was awarded the James Douglas Gold Medal by the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering (AIMME) for ”his scientific contributions to the art of working and annealing non-ferrous metals” in 1932.

1952

The Centennial of Engineering at Yale was celebrated on October 24. Speakers included C. Guy Suits of General Electric, John R. Dunning of Columbia, and T. Keith Glennan of Case Institute and Yale’s President Griswold.

1955

Barnett F. Dodge (1895-1972), Professor of Chemical Engineering was elected President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering.

Professor Dana Young appointed Dean of the School of Engineering.
