1942-45

Massive involvement with technical training of military personnel engaged those engineering faculty who remained at Yale. At its peak there were over 7000 soldiers and sailors on the campus, a number larger than any peacetime enrollment. While many Yale faculty members were engaged in wartime research, no large federal laboratories existed on the campus.

All non-engineering undergraduate courses associated with the Sheffield School are transferred to Yale College except Industrial Engineering, which now becomes part of the School of Engineering.

The department of Engineering Mechanics is closed, the faculty is divided between ME and CE.
