1919

A major restructuring of all of the Schools of the University enacted by the Corporation. The undergraduate degree requirements were changed so that all programs were of four-year duration. A common freshman year was instituted for both The Scientific School and The College. All graduate programs were now organized by the Graduate School. The faculty in the School who were members of The Board of the Sheffield Trustees were replaced by members of the Yale Corporation.

Boeing’s B&W

William E. Boeing (1881-1956), a student in the Scientific School (1902), designed and constructed the B&W, a flying boat used for transport between Seattle and Vancouver. His company has continued to design and build aircraft.

1920

A new program of courses titled “Administrative Engineering” was approved by the Corporation.

Samuel W. Dudley (1879-1963) appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Strathcona Professor in 1921.
