1911
- Appointed Charles Felton Scott (1864-1944) Professor of Electrical
Engineering. Scott was the designer of power transformers and transmission
systems for the Niagara Falls installation while he was an assistant
to Tesla at the Westinghouse Company.
He had great concern for his students. In 1916 he received the following
from the plant manager of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company.
It seems best that the men should start at the bottom and work
their way up. As I have previously written the millwork is physically
hard and the hours long, eighty-four a week. Hence big strong men would
be best suited for these jobs.
Scott notes that none of his students that year
applied to the Youngstown Company.
- The degree in Metallurgical Engineering approved by the Corporation.
- Mason Laboratory including its new large experimental bay was occupied
by the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
