Lee deForest (1873-1961) received his Ph.B from the Scienti€c School, followed by the earning of his Ph.D (1899) for a thesis entitled “On the Reflection of Hertzian Waves from the Ends of Parallel Wires.” Amongst his many technological and entrepreneurial accomplishments, was the invention of the vacuum triode in 1906, the basis of modern electronics. He was awarded an honorary degree by Yale University in 1926. He had been honored by many foreign and American institutions.
