1880Founding of the Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). 1884Appointment of Charles Brinckerhoff Richards (1833-1919) as Robert Higgin Professor Mechanical Engineering. He invented an indicator for high-speed steam engines and an instrument for the quantitative measure of the strength of materials. The American Institute of Electrical Engineering (AIEE) was founded; in light of modern developments it is now called the American Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (AIEEE). 1886First Courses in Electrical Engineering were given at Yale. |
