Xilinx Installation README

 

Pre-requirement: The complete installation of Xilinx requires approximately 500 Megs free hard disk space, and takes approximately an hour to complete. It works on PCs only.

 

1. Follow the link below

Select , you will see the registration login interface.

 

 

then click .

 

 

Fill out the forms, keeping in mind that the password must be more than 6 characters long and contain a numeral. Your Company/Organization is Yale University, Electrical Engineering Department.

 

 

2. Download software

After you have created an account, go back to http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xebiz/designResources/ip_product_details.jsp?key=DS-ISE-WEBPACK, select  this time. Enter your ID and password when prompted. If you successfully log on, you can see

3. Install the Software with WebInstall

Follow the link Xilinx WebInstall and either save the file to your hard disk or open it directly. If you saved it to your hard drive, double click and it will self-extract in order to begin running the installer.

 

Assuming you accept the license agreement (of course you do), click next.

USE THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY when installing, click Next

Click Next

Check all of the boxes to install all of the Xilinx modules, then click Next

 

Click Next

 

 

Finally click Install to start installation. Now you can monitor the installing process by check the interface. The installer will download the necessary files from the web. This takes about half an hour to 45 minutes

4. Install the ModelSim

 

Next, you need to download and install the ModelSim Plug-in. Go to http://www.xilinx.com/ise/optional_prod/mxe.htm you will see

 

 

select on the right side.

 

 

After you accepted the terms of the license, you will be directed to a download page.

Download the file mxe_3_6.0d.zip.

 

Unzip this file (using a ZIP utility like WinZip or WinRar, both available in free demo versions, or using the built-in extractor in WinME and WinXP). Find the extracted folder and double click on Setup.exe.

 

 

 

 

select MXE II Starter – Limited Version of MXE II (Free) because this is the only version for which you will get a serial number.

 

 

After accepting the license agreement, set the install directory (again USE THE GIVEN DIRECTORY),

 

The installer will ask you to “Select Library Installation Options.” Choose “Full Verilog.” It is important to select the correct library.

 

Select Program Folders as indicated in the graph.

 

Then it starts installation. You can monitor the install process with the following interface.

 

3. Install the License File

 

After installation complete, a popup will ask if you want to complete license request now. Select yes. It will direct you to a web page.

 

Select “Continue” and enter your username and password (Remember the one that you entered at the very beginning of this installation). There appears a license request form. Verify your information (email in particular, as you will shortly receive an email with an attached file) and submit it.

 

 

 

 

 

When this email arrives, save the attached file to the folder to the c:\Modeltech_xe_starter directory in the folder called win32xoem.

 

Then, open modelSim and run the licensing wizard.

 

Click continue. When it asks for the location of your license.dat, recall that it was placed in the win32xoem folder of the modelSim program. The Licensing Wizard may ask permission to modify your FlexLM environment variable and/or shut down Xilinx and restart it and/or reboot your machine. Follow the onscreen prompts.
