The Morse Teaching Center's Lab Administrator's duties are both numerous and essential to maintain and improve the environment of MTC. Known by the electrical engineering students as "the man you need to talk to," many consider the Lab Administrator a jack of all trades, master of most.

Lou served as Lab Administrator from 1968, and retired after 30 years of faithful service on November 20, 1998. He is now enjoying retired life in Florida with his wife, but also intends to pay occasional visits back to Yale to see how we're coping without him. You'll be fondly missed, Lou!

Lou's major responsibilities were:

  • Lab instruments--installation and maintainance of the new Hewlett-Packard equipment, the older standard instruments, and specialty equipment.

  • Computer hardware--upgrading older computer equipment to new network standards, addition of new equipment (cards, mics, etc.) and general maintainance.

  • Computer Software--installation of new and special needs software, resolving compatability issues of software on new and old machines.

  • Inventory--stocking labs with recommended components. (see recommended parts list)

  • Parts Orders--orders specialty items for both student projects and faculty requests.

In addition to these duties, the Lab Administrator performs a plethora of usually unnoticed duties such as helping students with equipment and projects, scheduling lab repairs, etc.
