Select Program in Engineering - Director: Prof. Daniel Prober
The Select Program in Engineering is designed to position the student upon graduation for advanced entry placement in the corporate world. Students fulfill the requirements of their B.S. major and also the specific requirements of the Select Program. This enhanced Bachelor's degree includes industrial research experience.
Students are accepted into the Select Program in their Junior year. However, depending on which courses they have taken, Seniors and Sophomores may also be admitted to the Program.
The Select Program in Engineering is open to students who major in Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering/Computer Science, and Computer Science.
Students should discuss their interest in the Select Program in Engineering with a DUS and also with the Director of the Select Program.
Grade Point requirement:
Undergraduates must achieve a B+ average in Group IV courses and in courses required by the Select Program.
Courses required for the Select Program:- Professional Ethics (Group II): ENAS 335a/EP&E 204b
- Financial Accounting: ACCT 170a
- Introduction to Environmental Engineering: ENVE/CENG 120a (Computer Science majors may substitute Computers and the Law: CPSC 180a)
- Introductory Economics: ECON 115a or b
- Two courses with significant engineering design content (see below) Design Experience required for the Select Program:
Students in the ABET-accredited programs (Chemical, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering) meet the Design Experience requirement as part of the accredited program (check with a DUS).
Students in the "Engineering Sciences" programs must take two courses from the list below:- Biomedical Engineering:
BENG 355 and BENG 471a or 472b
- Chemical Engineering:
CENG 480a and 416b or 471 or 472
- Electrical Engineering:
EENG 471 or EENG 472 and EENG 350b or EEBG 426a
- Environmental Engineering:
CENG 480 and CENG 416b or 471 or 472
- Mechanical Engineering:
MENG 185b and 489a or 471 or 472
- Applied Physics:
APHY 471a and 472b (significant design component)
- Computer Science:
CPSC 421a and 422b (advanced programming) Internship:
Select Program students must spend one summer doing research in industry during their undergraduate years. Most students acquire their industrial research experience during the summer following their Junior year.
