Engineering Alumni
Yale Engineering Alumni are leaders around the globe in business and society. They are part of a Yale Engineering community that carries on a tradition that has produced leaders for over three centuries. The mission of Yale Engineering is to prepare our students for vital leadership roles in society by providing a very rigorous scientific and technical education. Engineering alumni work in a variety of fields: economic, social, political and entrepreneurial careers that shape the global and cultural environment. We seek to produce leaders who make a difference to their organizations and to their communities.
We encourage Engineering Alumni to get involved:
- Participate in shaping the future of your Alma Mater by interviewing and recommending (or not) applicants for admission to Yale.
- Volunteer to be a Class Agent - the time commitment is low and the satisfaction is high! You will help keep your fellow alumni in touch with each other and with us, giving us input on planning meaningful events for alumni in your area, as well as assisting in strengthening the Alumni Fund. Strong commitment to the school is the only requirement!
- Enrich the education of current engineering undergraduates by participating in YSEA, the Yale Science and Engineering Association.
- Come back to Yale to provide critiques of students' new product development proposals, or speak to students about your career path.
- Assist Yale graduates who relocate to your area of the country or who are looking for positions in your area of expertise.
- Recruit engineering students for full-time employment. Your company could also provide a summer research job, host a student in the Select Program or an internship. Contact Jean Edmunds for details.
- Visit with former classmates and professors at class reunions held at Yale every five years.
Class of 1950:
The largest graduating Engineering class ever, 370 strong, celebrated its 55th Reunion in 2005. 1950 classmates and Engineering graduates Bill Glover (Chair of the Engineering Reunion Organizing Committee), George Gephart, John Russell, Dick Barker (Professor Emeritus of EE at Yale), Tom Kempner, and Dave West organized special events to showcase Engineering at Yale.
Throughout the 1950s, Engineering majors made up ~20% of each class. If you are interested in information about Engineering grads in the Class of '50, contact Bill Glover.
