This is what Prof. Menachem Elimelech said at the 2005 Commencement Engineering convocation:

Environmental Engineering is the newest major in Engineering and Applied science at Yale. This is only our fourth graduating class.

This year we have nine graduates-- our largest and most dynamic graduating class to date. As you will see from the titles of the senior projects, environmental engineering is a very interdisciplinary field, which is what attracts the students to choose it as a major.

Amanda Teresa Chavez
B.S. in Environmental Engineering
Senior project: Bacterial Chemotaxis and Phytate.

She worked for four years in the environmental engineering lab and for two summers at Los Alamos National Labs.

Other activities included Yale Students for Christ, Yale Student Environmental Coalition, and she was also President of the Yale Society for Environmental Engineering and Sustainability.

After graduation: A one-year Internship doing campus ministry at Yale with Yale Students for Christ. Then, probably, graduate school.

Kathryn Elizabeth Dana
B.S. in Environmental Engineering
Senior Project: Sorption and Desorption of Organic Contaminants by QAC-Exchanged Smectite Clays.

At Yale, Katie carried out lab research; she also spent one semester at St. Andrew's University in Scotland.

After graduation: She will participate in a twelve-month cultural exchange program in Germany, called Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange. The program comprises language, university coursework in engineering, and an internship at an engineering firm

Alexander Swanson Daniels
B.S. in Environmental Engineering with a double major in International Studies; he has graduated With Distinction.
Senior Project: Low Energy Recovery of Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide in a Membrane Distillation Process.

Sander was the President of Club Soccer Team and President of Yale Society for Environmental Engineering and Sustainability.

Last year, he received the Belle and Carl Morse Junior Prize in Engineering and Applied Science and this year he received the D. Allan Bromley Prize in Environmental Engineering.

After graduation: Sander will be working in Virginia for a year before going to Law School.

Olympia Galenianou
B.S. in Environmental Engineering; she has graduated With Distinction.
Senior Project: A Design for Direct Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Extraction.

Olympia was the Vice President of the Hellenic society for two years.

After graduation: Olia is heading for MIT to pursue graduate study in Environmental Engineering.

Kyle Matthew Hilgendorf
B.S. Environmental Engineering
Senior Project: Direct Atmospheric Carbon Extraction, preliminary plant design and economics.

Kyle ran track & cross country at Yale for 2 years.

After graduation: Kyle will be working as a paralegal at Jones Day, Manhattan, NY.

Jennifer Burlingame Hoyle
B.S. in Environmental Engineering
