Abstract
EPR pairs are a resource for quantum communication and quantum
computing. Creating a long distance high-fidelity EPR pair can be achieved in
a quantum repeater protocol which is based on entanglement generation, purification,
and connections of pairs. In this talk we discuss implementation of these protocols
with photons and atomic ensembles, and possible extension and adaption of these
ideas to generation and purifcation of spin-singlets in solid state circuits.
