The National Science Foundation recently announced the recipients of the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship. Two of our Yale Chemical Engineering seniors, Lea Winter and Rahul Kini, were among the 2,000 awardees from around the United States. Lea hopes to pursue a PhD in Chemical Engineering next year with a focus on water and energy. Rahul will pursue a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University with a focus on novel materials for energy storage and production. Five Yale students took part in the 2014 National AIChe Conference in Atlanta, GA. Siddharth Senthilnathan (BK '15) won 1st place in the Petroleum Engineering Division and Rahul Kini (ES '15) won 1st place in the Materials Science Division. Special thanks to the Yale Chemical Engineering Department for funding the trip.
On November 13th we invited several undergraduate chemical engineering majors to share their summer experiences with underclassmen. Experiences included corporate internships (Exxon, Schlumberger, Dow Agro, BASF) and research experiences (DAAD rise, NSF REU @ MIT-UT Austin-UC Boulder-NUS, and Yale's Tetelman Fellowship- Zhejiang). Thanks to everyone who shared!
On November 6th, Professor Loewenberg had dinner at Bar Pizza with a few prospective Chemical Engineering students to help answer questions and offer advice about career paths. Thanks to the Yale Sophomore College Council for helping sponsor the event. We look forward to hosting more advising events in the weeks to come!
