Ed Jackson has joined the Faculty of Engineering as the Resident
Senior Electronics Engineer and Administrator of the Morse Teaching
Center, effective March 8, 1999. During his 25 years in industry, Mr.
Jackson had responsibility as group leader and senior project
engineer for software, hardware, and mechanical design in medical
electronics products and in a wide range of factory automation. He
holds several patents for medical instruments, including for
thermometers and infusion pumps.
In MTC Ed's major responsibilities are:
-
Evolving our instrumentation base by selecting new equipment
for purchase as well as designing and building special circuit
boards and fixtures that customize the lab bench instrumentation
to particular tasks under LabVIEW.
-
Supporting students, graduate teaching assistants and EE
faculty in teaching lab related circuit design issues, the
selection of components or appropriate substitutes, and making
design and equipment procedural suggestions. This is particularly
important in the area of special projects for which Yale
Engineering is noted.
-
Evolution of the information resources on our MTC Web
site.
-
Computer Software and Hardware--evaluation and installation of
new standard and special purpose software, upgrading older
computer equipment to new standards, addition of special computer
capabilities (cards, mics, etc.), and coordinating general maintainance.
-
Evolution and inventory of our recommended
parts selections
In addition to these duties, Ed will follow Lou Berman's tradition
of performing a plethora of often unnoticed duties such as advising
students and faculty colleagues in the Faculty of Engineering on a
wide variety of project and equipment issues. We are very fortunate
in the depth of experience he brings to all such work in MTC.
